Lee Berger, Paleontologist

Lee, born December 22, 1965, organized an expedition that brought six qualified researchers in from around the world to commence an excavation of the skeletal remains found in the Dinaledi Chamber in 2013.

Here's what he said.

"When I saw this, I had an hallucination. I don't know if you've ever seen those movies about mathematicians, or whatever, physicists, when those glowing numbers start appearing in the air around them. That happened to me in that space. It's the kind of thing that shouldn't happen to a person like me. But it did. I will never forget that moment, when I came out and told you guys there were engravings, but I hadn't shown you.

This is the hash mark made by the Neanderthals 60,000 years ago in Southern Spain.

On the right, we have the hash mark, that is almost identical to the one on the left, made by the Naledi,

This is Blombas, the earliest art (sic) done by Homo Sapiens. We've just seen three species that are drawing the same pattern.

How is this not simply the shared shapes that sit inside out mind and that we're born with, they're genetic.

How is possible that this is not in us, that this is the Rosetta stone to the mind, the language and the symbols that are all of the shared minds?"

The other discoverer said, "This is the oldest tool used by any member of the genus Homo to create imagery."

Lee asked Kenei (Dr Keneiloe Molopyane), "what do you vote Kene, is it a tool?"

Kene replied right away, "Listen, it's a pen."

People are going to say we that Homo Naledi made art in that cave.

It seems obvious what these markings are. Definitely not some hominim who created 'rock art' in a hardly-accessible chamber to be viewed in the dark by nobody.

If I were to ask any thinking being "Make me the simplest way to keep people out of an area", they would put up sticks crossed across the narrowest part of the entrance.

If I were to ask then, "Make me a symbol to tell people to keep out of an area", they would surely make some kind of crossed stick shape to depict this. We even all use the X symbol universally today to depict "NO", or "WRONG".

If I were to ask them, "Where would you put this symbol?", they would put it in a place where it would be right in your face at the entrance.

It would have taken hours for these hominids to scratch, dig those deep lines into that hard Flowstone rock.

This is not art. These are the first recorded words written by our ancient relatives, hundreds of thousands of years ago: "(Respect this place) DO NOT PROCEED. KEEP OUT".

The part that makes me smile is that he insists he is a scientist, yet has this slogan written prominently on his website:

BORN TO BE A PALEONTOLOGIST

I wonder if he's ever given much thought as to how unscientific a statement that actually is.

It's probably just his Capricorn wisdom overruling everything his university books ever taught him about himself.

According to Sepharial (a prominent astrologer who lived in the UK 100 years ago):

SUN: 0 of Capricorn: Here is a good example of spirit in the seed, most applicable to Capricorn. He seems to have a concentration of spiritual truth within himself. He speaks and acts for the future; much misunderstood and perhaps not even portraying clearly the truth he perceives because of the distortion between himself and his environment. He holds to what he believes and attempts to give it out in the best way he can to be meaningful to those around him. There is great endurance and patience granted by the urgency of his insights and the need to hold what he believes against all onslaughts from outside influences. He may discover some of the most jealously guarded secrets of nature and be a forerunner of times to come; and may as well bring again to the light things long forgotten and buried, thus reviving the past. Whether the former or the latter, he has a mission to fulfill and possesses the force of character and the sharpness of mind life demands of him. A naturalist or a mining engineer, a pioneer, an archaeologist or whatever he is, he is born to discover, to innovate, and to be misunderstood and bitterly fought. He will have to suffer but will be able to overrule the intrusive advice of the zealous. Should the other aspects not rule out a measure of luck, he may well end by carrying the day.

VEN: 10 of Aquarius: Experience can teach many things, can drop a pinch of salt into the native's head and inspire him to a fondness for archaeological or historical research and even, at the limit, can make him into a good organizer of other people's activity.

MAR: 29 of Capricorn: Silence and contemplation away from the business centers of the world are sought after here. He may be musical or poetic, usually with a touch of melancholy. He is also usually a collector of something. At the very least, he is conservative by nature desiring to save and make use of everything of value. There is a great love of animals and nature. He might do very well as a dairyman. His outlook is usually practical and simple. He loves natural settings and prefers to work and live outside. He might also do very well with forestry, especially as a ranger or stationed at a lookout post. Even if poor and uneducated, he will draw from an inborn, instinctive wisdom, an unerring insight into nature, its beings and its laws; if in a position to learn, he will delve deep into the knowledge of such laws and will be led to discoveries that will raise him into renown.

JUP: 25 of Gemini: This degree seems to have two main influences which are difficult to associate; one contributes to dancing ability, the other to intellectual abilities of a very skilled nature. It greatly detracts from any possibility of success in the business world. The degree is much suited to archaeological research, or the study of dead languages. There is an ability to concentrate and thereby perform very unusual feats. A native of this degree would quite likely be stimulated to pursue some new idea to a logical conclusion by mental visualization. delving into scientific research. He stands more than a fair chance of emerging into eminence in scientific pursuits and of finding his delight in them.

URA: 19 of Virgo: There is an absolute need of freedom, of elbow room, of ease of movement, and there is a strong resentment of any social code. This leads to the greatest outspokenness. The native is certainly not tongue-tied, and his criticism might prove harsh, his sincerity brutal. Should the subject be born on a higher than proletarian level and therefore be in for a higher than primary education, he will feel inclined to choose a branch of studies allowing him to deal with the country or with the sciences related to it. He might become an excellent farmer but also have the makings of a good agricultural expert or penologist, and he might be proficient in any other subject connected with the products of the soil.
